Sports Funding

Background
Sports Premium is an amount of money which the government has allocated to schools to promote and develop Physical Education and School Sport provision. Schools receive a lump sum and a premium amount per pupil. The premium money has to be spent exclusively on extending the opportunities for all pupils to experience high quality PE lessons, activities and competitive school sport. Our impact statement and strategy outlining how we use this funding can be found using the links below.

Our School Two Year Plans

We plan to invest this additional funding into a development programme to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered both now, and in future years. At the end of the two-year funding period our staff delivering PE will be more confident and competent AND our students will have access to additional and extending PE and Sport Opportunities both now, and in the future.

PE

At Linden Primary School, each class is timetabled to 2 hours of PE per week. In Reception and Key Stage 1, these two hours are focussed on the fundamental skills of PE (running, jumping, throwing, catching etc.) In Key Stage 2, these skills are applied to a variety of sports/games. As well as sports, we believe that other aspects of healthy living, such as Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA) and physical and mental well-being are of great importance.

Lancashire Scheme of work

As a school, we use the Lancashire PE Scheme of work as guidance to support staff in planning, delivering and assessing units of work which build upon prior learning. Lessons are taught both indoors and outdoors.

Swimming

Each year group (Year 2-Year 6) goes swimming for a minimum of 10 weeks of the year. Our swimming lessons are provided by Swimwell Teaching Services and take place at Ribston Hall High School. The children are taught the different strokes of swimming, as well as how to stay safe in and around water. Their achievements are celebrated with certificates (and sometimes badges) at the end of each block of 10 lessons.

As a school we record how many Year 6 children achieve the end of Key Stage 2 expectations; The number of children who can swim 25m, The number who can perform a range of strokes effectively and the number of children who can safely perform a self-rescue. Our data from the last cohort of year 6 children who completed their 10 weeks swimming block is below: The number of children who can swim 25m is 41/58. The number who can perform a range of strokes effectively is 49/58. The number of children who can safely perform a self-rescue is 19/58.
